A seat on the Lally Tours coach costs $76, and that fare includes the ticket. So for a couple, the coach is far cheaper. What you pay for here is the pickup, the pace and a car that waits for you. Weigh it against the coach days before you make your Connemara booking.
Kylemore on your terms
Two hours at Kylemore Abbey is the one long stop. The ticket is not in the fare: you buy it online or at the visitor centre. It opens the restored ground-floor rooms, the Neo-Gothic Church, the Mausoleum and the Victorian Walled Garden, with a shuttle bus to the garden. The café sits outside the paid area, so you can eat there with or without a ticket. After the abbey, your driver takes you along the Sky Road, with twenty minutes above Clifden Bay and its islands. The road home follows the south coast through Inverin, Spiddal and Barna, with a stop at Standún, a family-run shop of Irish gifts. Connemara National Park is not on this route, so if the trails matter more than the abbey, a park day suits you better.

Choose something else instead if
You are one or two people on a budget: the Leenane and Kylemore day costs $76 a seat with the ticket included. If you want a full day in your own vehicle, the private minibus hire from Galway runs ten hours for up to fifteen.
