What a private Connemara tour is
It is a vehicle and a driver or guide for your party alone. The car collects you where you
are staying in Galway and brings you back at the end. The cars and the minibus are priced per
vehicle, up to a set number of people, so the price is the same whether two of you travel or
the vehicle is full.
They run from a half day of four to five hours to a minibus day of ten. Most give you about
two hours at Kylemore Abbey and add their own stops: Aughnanure Castle, a sheep farm, Roundstone
and Dog's Bay, Cong, or the Cliffs of Moher on the long minibus day.
Fat Bike Galway runs a guided hike and an electric fat-bike day for your group alone. Those are priced per person, and they spend the day on foot or on a bike rather
than in the car.
Why choose a private tour

No walk to a kerb at 09:30. Every private tour here collects you in Galway, and the minibus
will collect you anywhere in the county.
You can see Kylemore and the park on one day
No shared day does both. With your own car you can ask for both when you book, since the
park's entrance near Letterfrack is a short drive from the abbey.
Seats for small children
Connemara Chauffeurs' half day lists infant seats, and John King's minibus lists infant and
booster seats. Lally Tours' Leenane coach does not supply them.
The one accessible day
Walk About Galway's sheep-farm day is sold as wheelchair accessible, and so is its vehicle.
The shared days that say either way are marked not accessible.
Stops a coach does not make
An hour at Aughnanure Castle, two hours at Killary Sheep Farm, Roundstone and Dog's Bay, or

For a couple, the coach costs a fraction of the car. For seven, the half day comes to about
$91 each, a little more than the Lally seat with its ticket, for a car that waits
for you. If you are two and cost matters most, the Connemara day tours from Galway are the better buy.

- Plan for weather on the active days: Fat Bike Galway moves or refunds a
day it cancels for weather.
Who should choose something else
- If you are travelling alone. You pay for the whole car. A day-tour seat costs
from $51, and the Lally Tours Leenane day puts the Kylemore ticket in its
$76 fare.
- If you want the ticket in the price. No private car here includes it.
Lally Tours' Kylemore days and Overland Ireland's 10-day tour do.
- If you want three hours on the trails for less. The
national park day trip from Galway gives you three hours in the park for
$57 a seat.
- If your plans might change. Avoid the chauffeur day, which is

Why are the hike and the e-bike day priced per person?
Fat Bike Galway runs them for your group alone but prices each place separately. So a couple pays twice the listed fare, and a solo traveller pays it once. The cars and the minibus are the ones priced per group.
Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
Almost every listing marks its tour as not wheelchair accessible. Walk About Galway's private sheep-farm day is the exception, and its vehicle is accessible too.
Can one day tour visit Kylemore Abbey and the national park?
Not a shared day tour: the three-hour days make you choose one of the two on the day. Rabbie's 3-day tour from Dublin stops at both on its Connemara day. A private car can plan both if you ask when you book.
What is the cancellation policy?
Most day tours refund in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. The Rabbie's tours from Dublin need 21 days' notice, and Overland's 10-day tour and the private chauffeur day are non-refundable.
